call 5/12/2015 notes

Folks,

Sorry for the delay. Anyway, quick telco notes below (I might have forgotten something already since my written down notes were extremely messy - cannot really read my own writing ;)

Start:	5/12/2015 6AM PDT
End:	5/12/2015 ~7AM PDT

Present:
	Jouni Korhonen
	Igor Freire
	Raz Gabe
	Richard Tse
	Bomin Li
	Peter Turnbull
	Steinar Björnstad
	Duncan Cockburb
	Kevin Bross
	Gareth Edwards
	Satory Matsushima
	Xhafer Krasniqi

Agenda:
	* New RoE header strawman proposal
	* RoE control channel
	   - basic assumptions / behavior
	* Time reference planes
	* First stab on the CPRI mapper
	* AOB

Discussion:
* Jouni went through the draft materials he has been working for
  The June FtF.
  - Revised RoE header proposal (with start and end bits)
  - TLV formats, control packets
  - Time reference planes
  - CPRI mapper strawman design (two versions; the simple one and more elaborate)
* Jouni also discussed about the timestamp behavior (presentation time) and how
    that is calculated.
* Kevin brought up that is some cases we might want to have the actual time when the
   RoE packet was sent (example MIMO etc when multicast distribution would be used).
   This needs to be discussed in more detail to understand the pros/cons.
* Jouni also showed some illustrations how samples could be buffered and that way
   get more one antenna carrier data put into one RoE packet.
* When packing samples into RoE frames we have not really discussed yet how
   to handle padding e.g. in a case of 64B/66B encoding. The RoE packet content may
   not align nicely in all cases.
* On CPRI mappers the "simple" version is basically a structure agnostic mapper with the
   exception it understanding how to remove 8B/10B or 64B/66B encoding and also
   mark start & end of the CPRI frame.
* The "better" CPRI mapper breaks the AxCs to separate flows, drops unused control
   words & L1 protocol, and uses RoE Control messages to carry the control traffic
   (including fast C&M).

* Before ending the call Jouni reminded about May 23 being the deadline for June
   FtF meeting.

- Jouni
