Actual agenda:
* IEEE news/update
* Review of the coming draft D0.4
* f2f meeting contributions
Discussion:
* Jouni gave an update what has happened recently in IEEE. This was
about IEEE 1914 and that it got approved 2/5/16 by NesCom.
* Erik asked about the overlap and roles of 1904.3 and 1914. Jouni
went through that 1904.3 RoE is assumed as the transport mechanism
and 1914 works on the fronthaul/RAN architecture, for example,
defining requirements for different functional in the RAN.
* Questions (e.g., by Xhafer) about possible merging of 1904.3 and
1914. Jouni went through the past informal discussions where the
same has been asked and suggested in ComSoc. The interest groups
are about the same people. There is no overlap in technical
topics.
* Xhafer asks whether there could be joint meetings etc already in
April time frame. Jouni says (speculates) there is too little facts
at the moment. We will discuss this in more detail in the coming
f2f later this month. Process will always take time and if these
two groups were to merge that would need approvals from both WGs
and the rest of the IEEE process.
* Richard M. goes through the draft of the upcoming D0.4. The draft
be in better shape & uploaded in a week. Meanwhile others can
contribute to the content.
* Erik relays comments from his engineering team asking about the
spec and Eth QoS quarantees, strict control etc.
* Richard M. and Jouni remind that 1904.3 spec is about headers,
and (de)packetization. It is assumed that underlying network
provides appropriate QoS quarantees.
* Jouni reminds the assumption is that end nodes have (buffering)
means to de-jitter traffic. Richard points to existing network
assumptions text (that must be enhanced). Jouni welcomes
further comments/requests/concerns early enough.
* Erik to post more comments/questions to the email reflector.
* Richard points out that we need to discuss more how to define
the RoE link setup process. One important topic for the upcoming
f2f meeting.
* Jouni shows a preview of the contribution he intends to bring
into the next f2f meeting. The contributions is about a new
pkt_type that carries both sequence number and timestamp in
the RoE (extended) header for the CPRI structure agnostic
mapper. Kevin states this should be discussed with more time
in hand. Jouni agrees and reminds that this is just a preview.
Next Meeting:
* 2/23/16 - a week before f2f telco and during MWC. Limited
participation expected to this call due MWC.
