RE: 1904.4 Consensus call

Thank you, Marek.

On the first fast read, the following caught my eye: the primitives in the new Figure 9-8 do not match the names defined in 3.4 and 3.5.

MCII and MCSR perhaps should be MACCSI:MACI and MACCSI:MACR respectively (see Figure 4-5). But I say “perhaps” because there is a long-standing misalignment, even in 1904.1.

The Protection function is shown as belonging to the OAM client (see Fig 4-3). As such, it can only receive OAMSI:OPI and OAMSI:OCI primitives, and it can only transmit OAMSI: OPR and OAMSI:OCR primitives.

In the past we ignored such nuances because it is a problem of the model being too strict, not the ambiguity of the specification. But if we want to clean this up, we can replace these primitives with signals going between MPCP client and OAM client.

Instead of MACI(MSgGate) we would have a Boolean (gateReceived) with this definition:  This variable is set to true by the ONU MPCP Client every time a GATE MPCPDU is received.

In HOLD_OVER_START state, we should add ‘gateReceived = false’ and the exist condition would become ‘gateReceived AND !primaryLoS’

(Do we use the above style or ‘gateReceived == true AND primaryLoS == false’? We use both styles now.)

Instead of MACR, we would use function deregister() with the following definition:

This function causes the MPCP Client to initiate the deregistration procedure according to IEEE Std 802.3, 144.3.7).

I’ll take a more detailed look at the document tomorrow.

Good morning, Glen et al.,

Attached please find my updated contribution for optical protection, with alignment to the consensus call we had yesterday.

Time permitting, I will also revise and update the optical transceiver monitoring section next.

Regards

Marek
