Re: One-way transmission budget

Kevin,

Within the current mappers and use cases <1ms one way delay should be just fine. I think we can assume that in this version of the to-be-spec safely.

All,

Is it reasonable to expect the one-way transmission time budget for RoE to be <1 ms?
  • TDD HARQ in LTE can be ~3 ms, but this has to include L1, L2, and L3 processing time, in addition to round-trip transmission times
  • Light in a fiber-optic cable travels at ~5 ns/m or ~5 µs/km
  • My experience is that most carriers have a one-way transmission budget of 100-250 µs in their systems

Is it reasonable to expect that the one-way transmission budget will be <1 ms?  This will help bound things as we look at issues like estimating what is required for presentation time offset.

Thanks,
